Curricular Classes / PE Modules

Shows, Assemblies & Performance Work

DSC_0141.jpg

Our curricular classes help students build a broad repertoire of dance movement, whilst developing a strong technical foundation and understanding of the subject. Classes can be delivered in varied genres, including multi-cultural dance styles. Many schools like to build cross-curricular ties with themes currently being studied in the classroom. Others already have a PE curriculum that they would like followed, but that they feel could have enhanced delivery by a specialist. At GLS Dance we tailor sessions to your specific and unique requirements, creating a bespoke service for your school. If you’re not sure where to start, we can help with that too.

  • Classes start from as little as £1.10 per child

  • 30, 40 & 50 minute sessions, allowing flexibility around your timetable

  • Bring learning to life! Transform art, literature & classroom topics into movement pieces

  • An accessible outlet for kinaesthetic learners

  • Builds confidence & self-esteem, promotes a healthy lifestyle & improves memory and creativity

  • A more accessible route to topic work for learners with additional needs

  • Perfect for PPA cover, dance units in PE or Topic Workshops

We have extensive experience in all kinds of school performance, from the intimate familiarity of the school hall to carnivals and large scale theatre productions. From EYFS, through to staff dance numbers, we can create a show-stopping piece for any group.

  • Sessions of 50-60 minutes, from as little as £1.83 per student

  • Session fee includes the creation of, teaching and rehearsal of your bespoke routine. Every project is unique and we tailor our delivery to your exact needs

  • No project is too big or complex

  • We work at a brisk & manageable pace, to keep projects as affordable as possible without leaving performers feeling overwhelmed

(Additional fees may be included if you require bespoke music editing, video services etc.)

Dance In EYFS & “Write Dance”

After School Provision

Most of our clients choose to enhance their dance offering further, with an extra-curricular dance club. It speaks to the level of engagement our students experience when, even after having a dance lesson that day already, they still want more!

We often have schools enquire about singular club sessions. Unfortunately we are rarely able to offer these as the time-cost involved in delivering a singular session isn’t economical. (This is reflected in our price list.)

However, if you are already having curricular lessons delivered by GLS Dance, a club on the same day is likely possible. This would be at a reduced cost from a singular club session.

After school clubs have a smaller group size of 18-22 students, providing more one-to-one attention for each child. This allows us to:

  • Help develop children's creative endeavours and choreographic skills

  • Refine the execution of more advanced movements

  • Stretch gifted and talented children even further

  • Prepare for a festival, competition or event

  • Explore varied genres and attain a deeper grasp of each style

As a full body discipline, incorporating musicality, expression and spatial exploration, dance has unparalleled benefits for young children. Though we provide general classes for this age group, many schools ask us to support their delivery of the “Write Dance” scheme of work. Recognised as a highly successful programme, it uses dance movements, song and mark-making activities to develop the muscles & fine motor control specifically needed to write.

  • A 30 minute session of varied dance activities costs only £1.10 per child

  • Develops self-expression, self-esteem and spatial awareness

  • Stimulate artistic development and expose students to varied musical stimuli

  • Builds core strength, good posture, balance and gross & fine motor skills

  • Increase movement repertoire and develop refined movement in students

Video Projects / Music Videos

During Covid-19 we had to fundamentally re-think the way we delivered dance performances. This lead us to the idea of video-based performance projects. Routines could be learnt socially distanced or in bubbles and then shared with parents online, who could then share them further, with close family and friends. (In line with parental/guardian permission being obtained.) These projects allowed us to deliver performances during those difficult times, but also opened up new creative possibilities! Two of these can be seen above.

The children involved in these performances had a chance to share not only their dance ability, but also their many other passions and talents too! The projects received rave reviews from parents and staff and became popular promotional assets for the school. Students found having their moment in the spotlight immensely rewarding and the projects created a great way to showcase the abilities of all. In the case of the “Year 6 Music Video”, it made a brilliant keepsake to commemorate and celebrate the children’s time at Lydiate Primary School.

Projects like these are very bespoke. They require a lot of planning and preparation time, delivery of the sessions to create a dance performance itself, and then further time to video and edit the performance together. However, we think you’ll agree, the end results create something long lasting and entertaining for all. If you would be interested in developing a project like this for your school, please get in touch. We’d love to discuss your requirements or provide some inspiration!
